2024 Women in Energy Scholarship Awarded

Strike’s scholarship program is part of our commitment to helping break through barriers and create a positive impact on the community at large. We believe that everyone has a right to education, and we are committed to providing people in historically underrepresented groups with financial aid.

Each year, we offer a $2,000 scholarship to a female student who is currently working in, or planning to pursue a career in, the energy or construction sector. The 2024 Women in Energy Scholarship was awarded to Lauren Humphreys.

She is a second-year Business Administration student at Mount Royal University in Calgary. She is currently passionate about marketing and has plans to pursue a master’s degree in the future.

Lauren gives back to her community in many ways, including:

  • Volunteering for the Calgary Police Youth Foundation’s Backpack Campaign. This initiative provided over 1,000 Indigenous and marginalized students with the school supplies they needed to start the academic year with confidence.
  • Along with her ringette team, Lauren contributed to the My Best Friend’s Closet initiative, a non-profit organization supporting teenage girls in need. She helped sort, wash, and display donations, contributing to an initiative that empowers young women and helps them feel confident and supported.
  • In the future she plans to start coaching young ringette players. Ringette has been an important part of her life, and she wants to help young girls discover the same sense of teamwork, leadership, and empowerment that she gained from the sport. As a coach, she plans to focus not only on developing their athletic skills, but also on instilling confidence and fostering a positive environment where they can grow as individuals.

“My education in business and marketing is not only about personal growth, but also about empowering others, especially women, to succeed in industries where they have historically been underrepresented. One of my main goals is to help promote women in business and encourage young girls to pursue careers in fields like marketing, business, trades, and energy services.

I am driven by the belief that businesses have a powerful role to play in creating inclusive and respectful environments where women can succeed. I want to use my degree to not only excel in marketing but also to advocate for and support women through initiatives like school career fairs and industry outreach. By helping young women envision themselves in leadership roles and guiding them toward opportunities in business and trades, I aim to contribute to a more balanced, diverse workforce.”
